Error 1701 may be caused by corrupt Internet Preferences. Resolve the error by trashing the Internet Preferences and the Internet Configurations folder.

Trash the Internet Preferences and the Internet Configurations folder
How to trash the preferences
  1. Double-click the Macintosh HD icon.

  2. Double-click the System folder.

  3. Double-click the Preferences folder.

  4. Click and hold the Internet Preferences item in the folder, then drag it and release it on the trash can.

  5. Close all windows.
  6. You now need to reconfigure the Internet Control Panel. Please see Configuring the Control Panel.
