Error 3162 / Trash preferences

If you receive Error 3162 when checking your email, you may have corrupted MacTCP DNR and TCP/IP preferences. You will need to trash your preferences and reconfigure TCP/IP and Remote Access.

Solution

Trash MacTCP DNR and reconfigure TCP/IP and Remote Access.

How to configure TCP/IP and Remote Access
  1. Double-click the Macintosh HD icon.

  2. Double-click the Systems folder.

  3. Click and hold the MacTCP DNR item in the Systems folder, then drag it and release it on the trash can.

  4. Double-click the Preferences folder.

  5. Click and hold the TCP/IP preferences item in the Preferences folder, then drag it and release it on the trash can.

    Note: You will now have to close all your existing windows and restart the computer. After restarting your computer you will have to reconfigure your TCP/IP and Remote Access. Please refer to Configuring TCP/IP and Configuring Remote Access.

    You have successfully reconfigured the TCP/IP on your computer.
