Error: Unknown Logon Method / Configure Outlook Express to logon correctly

If Outlook Express is configured to send encrypted logon information you will get a logon error message. You will need to reconfigure Outlook Express and uncheck Always send secure password in Preferences.

Cause

If Outlook Express is configured to send encrypted logon information this error will occur.

Solution

Uncheck Always send secure password in Outlook Express Preferences to configure Outlook Express to logon properly.

How to configure Outlook Express to logon correctly
  1. Open Outlook Express.

  2. From the Edit menu, choose Preferences.

  3. Click on the triangle to the left of Accounts so that it points down.
  4. Select E-mail in the Accounts list.
  5. Click the Advanced button.

  6. Uncheck the box next to Always send secure password.
  7. Click the OK button.

  8. Click the OK button.

    You have now successfully re-configured Outlook Express preferences. Try checking your email again.
